Distribution Of Sanitary Pads To Adolescent Orphans

The COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to close their doors, impacting on unprecedented number of learners worldwide. As a mitigating measure against the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic to the girl child, DEVLINK distributed sanitary towels to a total of 1810 adolescent girls (age 11-18) were also provided with sanitary towels (10 pads per girl).

This was meant to help reduce their vulnerability to defilement as a result of lack of such during this pandemic period. The social workers used the opportunity to highlight to the girls and their caregivers on matters of hygiene and how to stay safe in the community. Information regarding their vulnerability to pregnancy and other STIs was also handled with them as they received the dignity packs (sanitary towels).
