DEVLINK AFRICA

About DEVLINK

Development Knowledge Link Africa (DEVLINK) is a non-governmental organization (not for profit) founded in 2003 with the aim of addressing human right concerns for vulnerable grassroot women and children with special emphasis on health, education and livelihoods.

The organization targets women and children including those living with HIV/Aids, survivors of gender based violence, Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).

DEVLINK has been engaged in several front-line human rights programs geared towards health promotion, access to justice, entrepreneurship and employment creation. As an organization, economic empowerment for women is our entry point to the community because without income it will be very difficult to address health and education challenges in the community.

DEVLINK envisages a healthy, empowered and a just society for all.

To foster innovative and sustainable initiatives among the marginalized communities in health, education and
livelihoods for holistic development

At DEVLINK, our work is grounded in a set of core values that guide our mission and operations. We uphold Integrity through transparent and ethical practices, and we are dedicated to Empowerment, equipping communities with the tools they need for sustainable growth.

Until a community has financial independence it will not be easy to achieve good health and access to quality education. We offer skills training and community saving groups.

DEVLINK runs a community health care facility targeting the fisher folk in line with HIV prevention, care and support.

DEVLINK AFRICA

We have adopted a comprehensive programming bringing together behavioural, structural and biomedical components for a comprehensive and all-inclusive intervention.  DEVLINK created an integrated Drop in Centre in our effort towards provision of health care services to the fisher fork and their families. An Integrated Drop In Centre (DICE) is a one stop shop where patients receive both health care education and treatment at the same time. The purpose is to increase access to health care of the Most at Risk Population (MARPs) with special emphasis to fisher folk whose health seeking behaviour has been a challenge to the Ministry of health especially on HIV/AIDS prevention and sexual and reproductive health services.

We offer health care services including HIV Testing service (HTS), treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), TB and Malaria Screening, Reproductive Health Services (RHS) in a friendly and conducive environment that attracts the fisher fork community to seek the services.

Directions that Matter

DEVLINK advocates for access, retention and completion of education for all children.

1

Respect for Human Rights: Sensitivity to vulnerability

DEVLINK works closely with the media and this has exposed social injustices in the community, as well as informing about efforts to challenge these evils and positive efforts being made to address the same. It also has a critical role to play in interpreting the role of culture vis-à-vis positive development in the community. Our efforts to rescue young girls from early marriage back to school and the fight against gender based violence has always been recognized countrywide.

2

Empowering Communities: Livelihood Programs, Gender Mainstreaming, and Leadership Development

The organization is also engaged in livelihood programs, gender mainstreaming in HIV and AIDS intervention, culture and human rights; leadership development by empowering and strengthening women to take leadership positions at local level and to occupy decision making structures to push forward their concerns in the community i.e. a participatory democracy from a gender perspective. Still on promotion of gender equality, the organization is involved in mentoring the girl-child and engendering the young voices including care and protection of OVC rights vis-à-vis community collective responsibility.

Health Promotion Initiatives

At DEVLINK, we enhance community health through comprehensive programs focused on disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and increased healthcare access. Our initiatives include health awareness campaigns, nutrition and hygiene education, and medical care facilitation. By collaborating with local health organizations, we aim to improve health outcomes and ensure everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy life.
